Where did out-of-the-box go?

Sometimes I love reading the “out-of-the-box” stories. You know the ones that start out of the blue and end up in the other side of the world. Some people can come up with the most bizarre ideas when they write. I once read a story of a Dragon called Friday, and it was surprisingly good, even thought I couldn't understand the story at all. The stories that make sense are also great, but sometimes I feel like I need things that are a little different than my normal everyday surroundings. I read the normal stuff every day; news about something bad happening, inconvenient love stories among teenagers, homework. Nothing really catches my eye nor make me think "what did I just read".

At school we tend to forget how to actually be creative. We've given the assignments, and we blindly do them as we're told. Write about this. No wonder we can't think out of the box as much as we used to. What would happen if we were given tasks that let us make the decisions? How about a math exam that asks us to write down our favorite equation? Or an English exam that asks us to write a story, any story? Or a history exam that asks us to write about any event in history? I bet that would surprise our lazy brains in a positive way. To actually think what we want to tell, not what the teachers what us to tell them.

Writing. It’s an awesome freedom to speak out; to give someone an image, an idea. A piece of our thoughts. Writing is wondering how weird life is. Because it is, the world is funny. We humans are odd, sometimes we don't make sense. I want to laugh hysterically at everything, because, well, why wouldn't I. And then I want to explain how weird everything is.

I want to question everything I see, ask why and how. I want to figure everything out and write about them so that everyone else can see that it’s special. The food on your plate is special. The fact that you happen to meet that amazing friend of yours is special. The dark night sky with millions of stars looking at you is special. Even the colorless walls are special, if you can see them the right way.

Let’s set our minds free and maybe we’ll come up with the most imperfect, non-sense-making stuff ever. Maybe someday school and the rest of society will catch up.
